Plight of the Bumblebees

£285.00

Pencil drawing on white conservation quality 300 gsm paper. Presented in a white conservation quality mount and a charcoal wooden frame.

The bees are all life size and drawn  from dead specimens. Each bee represents on of the the 77 European bumblebees that are currently listed as critical, endangered or vulnerable on the International union for Conservation of nature (IUCN) Red List.

They are drawn in a grid shape to reference insect collections that were popular in Victorian times but have subsequently led to the demise of some species.

The decline of bumblebees is significant for man as man is reliant on the bees and other insects for pollination.
