The Charm of the Precarious
£200.00
Framed original cyanotype on conservation quality 300gsm watercolour paper with gold leaf. Presented in a white conservation quality mount and white wooden frame.
Since I discovered that the UK is one of the most nature depleted countries in the world (The State of Nature Report 2023) I have been considering the problems of habitat loss, litter dropping, fly tipping and pollution. Read more about this series in my blog.
This cyanotype was created by combining images of litter found whilst walking in woodland and farmland and combining it with images of small wildlife who forewarn us by reacting rapidly to changes in the environment. I’m also wondering are they adapting or are their habitats being destroyed?
The gold leaf details reference Kintsugi which is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with golden glue to emphasise the breaks and embrace the imperfections. The gold leaf in this work is a metaphor for loss and recovery.
