Fading Beauties

£285.00

Pencil drawing on white conservation quality 300 gsm paper. Presented in a white conservation quality mount and a charcoal wooden frame.

The 19 butterflies are all life size and drawn to fade towards the edges of their wings. Each butterfly is one of the 19 species of butterfly that are currently listed as critical, endangered or vulnerable in the UK on the International union for Conservation of nature (IUCN) Red List.

They are drawn in a grid shape to reference insect collections that were popular in Victorian times but have subsequently led to the demise of some species.

The decline of butterflies is significant for humankind as we are reliant on them for pollination of crops.
